Listening, Leading, and Earning Trust: My Conversation with the League of Women Voters

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County. It was a meaningful and thoughtful conversation centered on the issues that matter most to our residents: public safety, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and leadership.

What I appreciate most about the League of Women Voters is their commitment to informed decision-making. They ask direct questions. They expect honest answers and they represent voters who care deeply about the future of our community.

As someone who has served the Kane County Sheriff’s Office for more than two decades, I welcomed the opportunity to share not only my experience, but also my vision for the future. My career began here. I grew up in Kane County, built my career here, and raised my family here. This community is not just where I work, it is home.

Throughout my career, I have served in many roles: from Deputy to Detective, to Major Crimes supervisor and everything in between. All of these leadership positions showed that I can oversee operations, staffing, budgeting, and strategic planning.

These experiences have given me a deep understanding of what works, what needs improvement, and what strong leadership truly requires. The conversation with the League reinforced something I have always believed: leadership begins with listening and having a mapped out plan.

Public safety is not just about responding to emergencies. It is about building trust, being accountable, managing resources responsibly, and ensuring that every resident feels safe and respected. It is about making thoughtful decisions that strengthen both our agency and our community.

I am proud of the work we have done, and I am confident in the path forward. I believe Kane County deserves leadership grounded in experience, transparency, and integrity.

I am grateful to the League of Women Voters for providing a space for meaningful dialogue and for their continued dedication to civic engagement. Conversations like these make our community stronger.

I look forward to continuing to listen, to lead, and to serve.
